When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help children and young people (0-25) and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. Join us and your skills will make a real difference to the lives of young cancer patients.
About the role
We are recruiting a 3 Navigators into our busy Central Support and Social Care team. This is a mixed staff and volunteer team delivering UK-wide digital and phone-based support to children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families. The team provides an additional point of entry to Young Lives vs Cancer’s services, alongside our local social work teams based in hospitals. The Central Support and Social Care team is fully remote and home based, all work will be completed at a distance.
As part of the close-knit team, you will be providing advice, support and guidance to young people diagnosed with cancer and their families. You will also be first point of contact for phone, email and web chat enquiries from people and organisations in their wider support network.
There are 3 posts available as follows:
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - 21 hours
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 21 hours
- Monday, Tuesday, Friday - 21 hours
There is an additional 3.5 hours available which can be added to any one of these posts, interest will be discussed at interview. These posts also have a flex-up component, which allows the team to surge to increased demand or cover absence. It is expected that successful candidates will be able to take on additional hours (up to a maximum of 35 hours per week), as required by the business need. This will be paid at a day rate, and your availability will be discussed with you at the time.
All roles operate within our core hours of 0900 - 1700.
Young Lives vs Cancer is open to and in support of flexible working. Your flexibility requirements and that of the role will be discussed at interview stage with you.
This role is home-based and can be based anywhere in the UK. Occasional visits to Young Lives vs Cancer workplaces or other appropriate meeting spaces will be required. You must have a quiet, private space in which to work at home. A laptop and resources will be provided.
This role is subject to a Criminal Record Check. In the event of a successful application a Disclosure report will be sought.

- Have experience providing listening-based, practical and signposting support to clients
- Possess great communication skills and the confidence to deliver these via phone and digital channels
- Are able to quickly assess a situation and what's needed, and respond accordingly
- Are able to record accurately and effectively on databases
- Have an innovative and solution-focused approach
