Job description
We are recruiting a Musician-in-Residence for our work at three secure settings in the Bristol area: HMP Bristol, Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home, and St Matthias Academy.
You will lead music teaching and rehearsing sessions on a weekly basis, teaching groups of prisoners and young people a range of instruments and singing in a wide range of styles. You will help to develop participants’ composition skills, enable them to record songs and achieve accreditation for their skills where appropriate.
We are looking for a confident and skilled producer and/or rapper. Most of the work involves supporting writing bars or creating beats using software and hardware. Above all, applicants must be confident, flexible and comfortable with many musical styles.
The work also involves organising occasional concerts for participants at local churches, and other venues, and providing advice and support. No experience working in the prison system is required as full training will be given. The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.
We are an equal opportunities employer and are especially keen to encourage applications from people under-represented in our organisation. Currently, this is those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.
