Job description
Salary: £28,965 per year
Hours: full time 35 hours per week
Contract type: Permanent
Location: Home based with UK travel
This exciting role is based in RNIB’s Consumer and Business Services team.
One of our most highly valued services for blind and partially sighted people is our Library, which provides thousands of accessible titles. It has been cherished over many decades and vital during the past two years.
Working closely with publishers, we can offer a huge variety of titles. Being able to provide newly published titles in accessible formats at the same time as the standard print enables blind and partially sighted readers to enjoy new books at the same time as their sighted peers.
This role will support customers in choosing leisure reading materials to suit their individual preferences. In addition, this role will support customers in finding the braille sheet music resources they require and in exploring our music collection. We want to ensure that visually impaired people can benefit just as much from library services as can their sighted peers.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a busy library service environment. It will be vital to demonstrate a knowledge and interest in a diverse range of books and reading with demonstrable knowledge of authors, titles and genres and an understanding of written music scores. Excellent networking skills will be required and an ability to work with people at all levels.
A personal understanding of the needs of blind and partially sighted people would be advantageous. Please note that this role uses software which does not currently support screen reader technology.
We’re the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and we’re here for everyone affected by sight loss. Working for us means working for one of the UK’s biggest charities, supporting almost two million people living with sight loss in the UK.
What we offer
In exchange we offer a competitive salary, a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:
- 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays), which increase with service.
- An excellent pension scheme
- Flexible working
- Staff discount schemes
