Job description
Sherwoods are one of the leading facilities maintenance businesses in the South West. Our region fits neatly between the M4 and M3 corridors stretching along the South Coast into South Wales and then down the South West peninsular as far as Lands End. We have an extensive portfolio of clients within healthcare, education, leisure, hospitality, and retail sectors and pride ourselves on promoting a culture of working together with both our customers and teammates.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Multi-skilled Carpenter to join our team in the Bournemouth area. You will join us on a full-time permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary plus benefits.
About the role:
As our Multi-skilled Carpenter, you’ll support the continued growth of the business by providing reactive and planned maintenance services in the area as well as support larger scale projects.
Hours of work are generally 08:00 - 16:30 Monday to Friday, but flexibility will be needed for start and finish times, on-call rota, and out-of-hours working
Because some of the sectors we work in involve close contact with vulnerable or young people, successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Your main duties as our Multi-skilled Carpenter will include:
- Carrying out routine PPM tasks, reactive works, and small projects - sometimes on your own and sometimes part of a team
- Building-related tasks including repairs to doors, tiling, plastering, flooring, and general carpentry - perhaps even some basic plumbing!
- Attending callouts/breakdowns and carrying out remedial repairs and replacements
- Providing materials lists and time estimates for return remedial works
- You will also be expected to work as part of an on-call rota to cover out-of-hours emergencies and there may be occasions when you'll be asked to work outside your core discipline to support other teammates
What we’re looking for in our ideal Multi-skilled Carpenter:
- Experienced carpenter with working knowledge of other related trades, including but not limited to repairs to doors, tiling, plastering, flooring, and general carpentry, and basic plumbing.
- A high degree of attention to detail
- A good appreciation of Health and Safety
- Highly customer-focused with experience in dealing with customers and suppliers
- Experience working within a mobile workforce, ideally in an FM company
- Excellent communication skills
- Full driving licence
Our "awesome" stuff:
- Industry-leading salary and overtime at enhanced rates
- 29 days holiday, plus a day off for your work anniversary!
- 1 x paid volunteering day per year
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Holiday buy and sell
- Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay
- Company van and fuel card
- Paid travel time over and above the first and last half hour of the day
- We’ll provide a tablet as standard, as well as a “bring your own device” policy so we'll contribute to the cost of your using your personal mobile phone
- Extensive discounts platform
- A range of medical and well-being benefits including Simply Health Cash Plan after probation
- We're passionate about supporting each other, so we'll also provide you with any training and development you need to do your job well
