Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Motor Transport Technician to join our skilled Airfield team at Birmingham Airport.  If you have experience of fitting work on a range of airport vehicles, plant and equipment (including petrol, diesel, electric vehicles, hydraulic systems and Pneumatic systems) or similar relevant experience, then this is the opportunity for you.

If you take pride in delivering a high-quality service, while also ensuring safety, legislative, environmental, operational and cost factors are taken into consideration then come join our team of dedicated Technicians who make a difference on a daily basis to the quality of travel of the passengers at the airport. You will be undertaking scheduled maintenance work according to manufacturer's recommendations/statutory requirements or BIA procedures.

No two days will be the same, you may be recording data and information on the CMMS or liaising and co-operating with customers regarding such matters as vehicle usage, call in and advice. You will be expected to display a considerable amount of judgement and organisation.

Please see the main duties and key tasks for this role:

  • To undertake Motor Transport Technician work as required on the full range of airport vehicles, plant and equipment (including petrol, diesel, electric vehicles, hydraulic systems and Pneumatic systems).
  • Work to priorities as directed by the line manager according to safety, legislative, environmental, operational and cost considerations.
  • To ensure that customer vehicles and ground support equipment are maintained efficiently and to a high level of availability whilst in a safe roadworthy condition.
  • To carry out scheduled planned and unplanned maintenance work according to manufacturer’s recommendations/statutory requirements or BIA procedures.
  • Record data and information on the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) effectively to ensure that the management information systems, customers, and service partners are sufficiently informed.
  • Achieve and maintain skill competence and knowledge of the job through training. Advise the Motor Transport Manager where further training or information is necessary to meet the requirements of the job.
  • To be available and participate in a 24hr call-in system.
  • To liaise and co-operate with customers regarding such matters as vehicle usage, call in and advice.
  • To ensure that equipment and premises under the control of the post holder comply with the appropriate Health and Safety at Work Regulations.
  • To use technology and systems and carry out administrative duties as required.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that a clean, tidy and hazard free working environment is maintained to defined standards.
  • To carry out such other duties commensurate with the grading of the post which may be determined from time to time.
  • To ensure that all work is carried out in a safe & cost-efficient way.
  • To participate in winter snow clearing operations.
  • To promote a safety culture within the airport.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of activities carried out by Birmingham Airport and non-Birmingham Airport teams resulting from maintenance activities.
  • To ensure competence and compliance with Statutory Regulations and Organisational Safety Requirement
