Job description
We are seeking an articulate, creative, motivated, and resilient Technician to work independently, and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Based at our new premises in Newcastle city centre, you will join a creative team who are developing novel DNA synthetic strategies that have the potential to transform the way DNA is made.
The core functions of this role are to assist in the daily operation of our Molecular Biology team. These functions include performing DNA synthetic techniques as required by the team to support ongoing R&D and customer projects.
Key tasks of the role will include but are not limited to:
- To perform characterisation and optimisation of molecular assays
- Detailed recording of obtained results
- Presentation of results to the team
- Perform experiments with great attention to detail
- Support laboratory functions including but not limited to general housekeeping of allocated workspace, preparing reagents etc
- To operate in accordance with the company’s Quality and Procedures manuals and to not do anything which would jeopardise the company’s reputation or accreditations.
- To keep the laboratory and equipment in a good physical condition at all times
- To maintain a positive, professional, and safe working environment, being mindful of the company’s Health and Safety procedures
- To be willing to work on continuous improvement initiatives
- In conjunction with scientific team, support stock control functions, particularly consumables and general lab reagents, and initiate their ordering according to purchasing procedures
- Support local record keeping, inventory and asset management
- Other duties as required
The person we are seeking:
- MSc/MRes or equivalent (industry experience) in biology, molecular biology or a related discipline
- Previous experience of performing PCR and working in a wet lab
- Proven ability to work efficiently without close supervision.
- Team player with excellent communication and writing skills
- Act with integrity at all times and maintain a high standard of work.
- Willing to learn and have a “can-do attitude”.
- Able to follow instructions, either verbally directed or from scientific resources and SOPs.
- Able to take initiative, and work in a fair and responsible way.
- Can communicate clearly and effectively.
It would be great if you also had:
- Hands-on experience on performing DNA-based testing, e.g. DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, Gel electrophoresis, DNA purification techniques, sequencing
- Cross‐functional working experience in a matrix environment
- Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and hands-on skills.
- Self-driven.
- Ability to communicate effectively
