General Summary:
We are recruiting a highly motivated Research Scientist to work in an innovative drug discovery group who could play a pivotal role in expanding our translational biomarker capabilities. Successful candidates will help us utilise a range of molecular biology techniques and state-of-the-art in vitro modelling to translate biology insights into clinically meaningful assays to characterise potential drug candidates. This work is vitally important for ensuring that we deliver medicines that treat the underlying cause of serious diseases and provide transformative benefit for our patients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implementation of robust and sensitive methods using cutting edge molecular biology techniques and assay platforms to support biomarker discovery and development
- Independently design and execute insightful pre-clinical research studies using relevant in vitro models and patients’ samples/biofluids
- Proactive communication and close collaboration with clinical biomarker and imaging teams
- Effectively distil complex, multi-dimensional data and results into concise concepts and clearly propose strategic and experimental actions
- Use contemporary and relevant scientific literature and routinely incorporate new insights into research activities
Knowledge and Skills:
- Track record of accomplishments in solving complex scientific problems with evidence of individual and collaborative contributions
- Experience in using cell models and primary patient tissues to understand causative disease processes
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of fundamental pharmacology principles to design and execute insightful experiments to understand compound effects & mechanism of action
- Laboratory experience of molecular biology techniques including qPCR, ELISA, western blotting, and IHC
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with a wide-ranging audience, both orally and in writing
- Highly motivated and curious individual; happy to work across a broad range of biological subjects and projects
Education and Experience:
- PhD obtained in a relevant Biological Science (e.g Cellular and Molecular biology, Pharmacology) or MSc with relevant experience in translational research/biomarker discovery
