Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to work in a customer facing role covering our 3 manned lock sites: Dog in a Doublet Peterborough, Black Sluice Lock Boston, and South Ferriby Lock. As a mobile lock keeper, you will be joining a dynamic waterways team operating the locks during tidal windows. Hours are dependent on tide times and the working pattern will include some weekends and bank holiday working. Due to the nature of South Ferriby Lock, the role will be predominantly supporting the lock at South Ferriby as there are other duties at this site along with the locking of boats.
There will also be the opportunity to support the Lincolnshire River Inspector with Public Safety Risk Assessments and support with enforcement duties.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
There will also be the opportunity to support the Lincolnshire River Inspector with Public Safety Risk Assessments and support with enforcement duties.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Providing safe passage to boaters and managing activities on and around the lock sites, associated structure and reach
- Assisting colleagues and customers with local expertise and knowledge to ensure effective management of the navigation of the river
- Looking after lock buildings, facilities and grounds to provide a safe and clean environment
- Maintaining and developing health and safety good practices
- Developing and maintaining a strong customer service and acting as an ambassador for the Environment Agency
- Undertaking compliance and regulation activities at Level 1 PACE
- Liaising and working with other local government departments i.e., local councils
- Ensuring efficient record keeping and information storage

The team
The Anglian Waterways team provides a high level of service to our boating customers in the Anglian Region based around our navigable rivers: River Nene and River Great Ouse including tributaries; Rivers Welland & Glen, South Forty Foot/Black Sluice Navigation, River Ancholme and the River Stour.
This post will be working in LNA Waterways Operations Team which manages navigation on the River Nene and Lincolnshire Waterways (Welland & Glen, South Forty Foot/Black Sluice and Ancholme).

Experience/skills required
Experience/Skills:
- Strong customer focus and communication skills, particularly face to face and over the phone are essential
- Well organised and methodical with attention to detail
- Able to prioritise and highlight potential issues
- Understand site Health & Safety requirements
- Achieves results and delivers outcomes
- Able to use standard IT packages efficiently and to learn specialised systems
- A quick learner who can work effectively and efficiently both on their own or as part of a team
- Able to swim
