Plant Oxford is the birthplace and heart of MINI production. Manufactured to individual customer specifications, hundreds of MINIs leave the plant’s assembly lines each day, off to meet new owners in more than 110 countries around the world. Three UK plants have had a part to play in MINI production – Plant Hams Hall makes engines, Plant Swindon produces body pressings and sub-assemblies for MINI, and all this comes together at Plant Oxford with body shell production, paint, and final assembly.
MINI Plant Oxford – Paint Shop Product and Process Engineering - 13 Month Placement (July 2023)
We are looking for a confident and eager to learn individual to join our Paint Shop Engineers for a 13 month placement in our state of the art paint shop. Our team ensure that the manufacturing process, products, programmes, tooling, and parameters are developed, defined, and adhered to. This involves continuously monitoring the processes and products to ensure compliance and specifications are achieved specifically in the pre-treatment, phosphating, and e-coat production process.

What will you be doing?
- Gaining an understanding of the Paint Shop’s manufacturing, conformance, and quality management processes. This will allow you to support the implementation of actions and measures to resolve problems and improve our processes.
- Exploring long-term sustainability developments from both inside and outside of the automotive industry, research that may be used to improve our processes.
- Actively contributing towards and participating in relevant meetings, workshops, and projects, using academically acquired skills and knowledge to provide an alternative perspective and support the business in process improvement.
- Preparing monthly reporting by compiling and calculating usage and emissions.
- Maintaining water usage data to ensure optimum efficiency of Reverse Osmosis.
- Supporting the Paint Shop department by taking on hands-on activities when required.
Qualifications and experience
- Studying towards a bachelor's degree in the field of Engineering and on track to achieve at least a 2:2.
- IT literate, including a high level of competency in Microsoft Office software such as Excel and PowerPoint.
- Able to compile and analyse data, determining results based on this.
- A team player, willing to support Associates and Managers as required.
- Proactive, with a ‘hands on’ approach and a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
- Confident and willing to share ideas.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A drive to improve, being open to taking new ideas on board.
- Strong time management, allowing multiple topics and tight deadlines to be managed.
