Mine Operative
At British Gypsum we are looking for a Mine Operative to work in our small, focused, multi-disciplinary production team.Your role will be critical in ensuring production targets are met, meaning an overall positive experience for our customers.
This role will potentially operate a Monday – Friday, 3-shift staggered pattern, which includes days, afternoons, and nights
The Mine Operative will be a part of a safety focused, highly skilled in one of our 4 production teams based out of Marblaegis Mine, East Leake, Leicestershire. The Mine Operative will be in a team of 3 working with a wider team of 7. The Mine Operative will be an integral member of the Mine Production team & operate front line production machinery and will be tasked with undertaking duties and responsibilities in a safe and economic manner in compliance with mining legislation, company policy and Managers Rules. Gypsum is the vital raw material at the heart of our plaster and plasterboard, and much of it is mined, milled, and made in Britain. In fact, as custodians of British gypsum reserves, we’ve been mining it for more than 150 years.
What we’re looking for:
· Experience operating heavy plant machinery/construction machinery, or anything industrial would be beneficial
· Adaptability, analytical and common sense; this is a highly hazardous environment, so a proactive attitude towards health and safety is a must-have
· Experience in a production environment, following strict safety rules and regulations, as well as detailed instructions
· A positive attitude to self-development and a willingness to learn
· Previous mining experience, operatives from quarries, Rail Tunnelling, Farming and Agriculture backgrounds will be considered
· Openness to working underground on a shift pattern
What you will be doing:
· You will be accountable for your own and your colleagues’ health and safety, whilst ensuring that all work is carried out to the highest possible standard.
· The Mine Operative will be an integral member of the Mine Production team & operate front line production machinery. The machinery includes mechanised cutting / loading machines, rock transportation machinery and shovel loaders
· Follow directions to ensure extraction width and height is in accordance with Mine Design.
· Operate a variety of underground equipment including face drills, tele handlers, mechanical scaler and LHD’s
· General mining, operating shuttle car and haulage machines, scoop machines, continuous mining machines, installing ventilation tube, drilling roof test holes
· Perform autonomous routine maintenance for mobile and fix equipment both underground and at surface (greasing, conveyor belt cleaning/rollers change
