Midwifery Healthcare Assistant
Location: The Portland Hospital for Women & Children, Great Portland Street, London.
Hours: Full time 37.5hrs pw ( Long days, Nights & Weekends) available
Salary: competitive dependent on experience plus Benefits
A unique opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant, ideally with previous maternity experience, to join the maternity service at The Portland Hospital.

The role will involve assisting clinical staff to provide nursing and midwifery care of the highest quality to women and their families.
You will also be expected to carry out a range of key administrative tasks to facilitate the smooth running of the department
- You will need to provide basic nursing care to patients under the supervision of trained staff and develop competence in carrying out basic observations, record the results, and chaperone as requested, notifying senior staff of changes/concerns in a patient’s condition
- Recognise own limitations and request assistance as necessary
- Monitor stock levels and report shortfalls ensuring clinical areas are kept tidy and rooms are stocked appropriately
- Demonstrate a caring and supportive manner to patients and relatives escorting patients as required, either within the hospital or beyond
- Undertake administrative duties as required e.g. filing, making up admission packs, reporting lateral flow tests
- Assist with capturing patient and consultant charges
- To wear correct uniform and always appear clean and tidy
- Assist midwives to set up and tidy rooms
- Deal with enquiries and refer as appropriate recognising potential or existing problems notifying senior staff & Identifying and reporting faulty equipment
- Recognise cultural differences/issues and adapt accordingly
- Liaison with consultants, managers, staff and patients.
- To demonstrate care and dedication being efficient and professional in representing the hospital assisting in the orientation of patients and visitors
- To maintain accurate records
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- NVQ level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care and/or The Care Certificate
- Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within hospital environment
- Excellent customer care skills
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Good time management skills
- Ability to work well as a team with staff at all levels
Desirable:
- Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in a maternity department
- Health and Safety training
- Lifting and handling training
- Having a good understanding of general hospital policies and procedures
- Evidence of updating clinical skills/knowledge
