- To perform the Limulus Amoebocyte Lysate test for endotoxins on raw materials, starting materials, water samples and finished goods according to current procedures.
- To carry out sterility tests according to the current procedures and to record all information on the appropriate documents.
- To perform total bacteriology counts, including heat shocking of test samples, on in-process products, water samples, starting materials and raw materials.
- To carry out bacterial isolation, identification and culture maintenance tasks.
- To prepare bacteriological media and buffers, including performance of QC testing.
- To read and accurately record test results on the appropriate documents and investigate results that exceed the specified limit.
- To carry out validations where required e.g. for sterility, endotoxin and bioburden testing
- Routine calibration/validation of equipment including temperature/pressure/time/weighing sensors/pH meter.
- To perform environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and controlled areas through the use of settle plates, contact plates and swab samples
- To take particle count determinations in the required areas
- To perform active air sampling in accordance with written procedures
- To decontaminate and clean all laboratory glassware and small pieces of equipment.
- To prepare glassware, filter units, scissors, forceps and other pieces of equipment for sterilisation.
- To sterilise media and equipment by autoclaving
- To review autoclave sterilisation parameters for compliance with the specifications
- Monitoring of stock levels of all lab consumables
- To maintain good aseptic technique and a clean and tidy environment at all times
- To assist in routine laboratory work as required.
- A degree or equivalent level qualification in Microbiology or a closely-related subject.
- The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines – (this role may necessitate working additional hours or shifts when required).
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of Sterility testing, LAL testing and environmental monitoring
- Experience gained within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a laboratory
