BravelyCultured, a Cambridge-based start-up backed by Carbon13 investment, is looking for a Microbiological Scientist to join our research team in Haverhill, Suffolk. At the core of BravelyCultured's mission is a dedication to sustainability in food systems, which drives our efforts to revolutionise the precision fermentation industry. Our primary objective is to reduce the costs of precision fermentation, making this technique economically viable for food production. As a Microbiological Scientist, you will work alongside the founding team on our protein production platform that uses seaweed and seawater as primary feedstocks. This will involve bioprospecting UK coastal regions, cultivating and isolating yeast and fungal species, and assessing their genetic makeup and protein production capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct day-to-day R&D
- Manage and maintain the laboratory
- Undertake UK-based coastal expeditions to collect wild fungal strains
Requirements:
- A PhD in Microbiology or related field OR minimum of 3 years of research experience
- Experience with DNA extraction, PCR, and genetic analysis
- Proficiency in microorganism cultivation and protein analysis
- Strong research planning and execution skills
- Right to work in the UK

- A valid UK driving licence
We offer a 6-month contract, starting as soon as possible, with the possibility for extension (subject to funding availability).
