About the role
We are currently looking for a motivated and committed individual with the aptitude and skills required to be a Meter Technician, working within our busy Meter Field Services Department. You will be a fully mobile worker, covering the region, starting and finishing from home.
The successful candidate will be required to attend appointments and site visits with customers. The role involves lots of face-to-face contact with our customers, offering advice and support, so excellent customer service and communication skills are essential.
You’ll be required to locate lost and missing meters as well as exchanging defective meters. As a business we are committed to reducing each person’s daily water consumption. As part of this target, you will complete Water Efficiency Audits with customers, you will be responsible for educating our customers on how they can save water, fix leaking taps and showers as well as leaky loos and ensure the property is water efficient by the end of your visit. You will also educate the customer on how to save water and reduce their water usage.
The role is physically demanding, the ability to bend, twist, kneel and crouch is essential due to the locations of our meters and the types of tasks you will need to carry out. You will be required to work 37 hours per week, working 5 days out of 7, Monday to Saturday between the hours of 08:00 to 18:00. A company van will be provided, to enable you to carry out your role.
Please note – Please note this role requires a DBS check to be carried out on the successful candidate. This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.
Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked
About you
You will need to enjoy meeting people and be happy to take responsibility for answering our customer’s questions, offering advice and delivering great customer service in what can be challenging situations. Dealing with customers is not only face to face but via telephone. You will be quick thinking with strong problem solving and decision-making skills as the aim is to have first visit resolution at all times.
This is a busy role with a requirement to meet tight deadlines, so we are looking for people with a positive and flexible approach to supporting their team.
You will need to be comfortable working alone for most of your day and happy to work outside in all conditions, but you will also spend time working inside customers properties.
Experience of using technology is important as you will be managing and recording your work via an iPhone. It is also essential that you have a technical aptitude, basic plumbing skills and the ability to work on all types of pipework and fittings.
If you have previous knowledge or experience working on the Water Networks that would be advantageous for numerous aspects of the role, however this is not essential as full training will be given.
You’ll have a full UK driving licence and be willing to undertake a DBS check as an entry to premises card is required for this role.
