Job description
We are Siemens
Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

What we’re looking for
We are seeking an intern to join us for a year to work within the Technology and Application group with a focus on the pre-processing and meshing of electric machines with Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Simcenter 3D. You will be responsible for investigating the different approaches available today, identifying current limitations, understanding the impact of meshing on solution accuracy, and establishing a “best practices” automated workflow to allow for successful market-leading electromagnetics simulations.
Is this your dream role? Please take a moment to meet some of our current interns who share their thoughts on working as an intern at Siemens. If you can picture yourself learning, growing, and succeeding in our team then we would love to hear from you!
What you’ll be doing
As well as evaluating the capabilities and limitations of different pre-processing and meshing approaches for e-machines, you will have the opportunity (with support) to develop an automated workflow and “best practices” solution for preparing and meshing electric machines within Simcenter. There will be opportunities to document and present findings to stakeholders
It is expected that the candidate will acquire a broad understanding of our products, their domains, and their application; have the confidence to express ideas as part of a creative software team; have a genuine interest in technological trends; to think creatively about solutions to complex technical problems; and be constantly striving to enhance the team’s results and the quality of the software.
What you’ll bring
- An inquisitive and methodical approach with good attention to detail
- Strong analysis, organisational, and problem-solving ability
- An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or another closely related field
- Experience with engineering simulation and finite volume / finite element meshing
- Basic theoretical background in electromagnetics
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
A knowledge of any of the following would be desirable:
- Simulating rotating electric machines
- Unstructured meshing and moving meshes
- Shell, Java or python scripting
- Experience in a Linux environment
- Advanced background in electromagnetics
