BDCFT is looking for enthusiastic and innovative Band 6 Mental Health professional to be an active part of a team of trained and competent professionals in Criminal Justice Liaison, who deliver a timely and compassionate assessment which effectively sign posts service users with mental health issues, presenting to the police.

BDCFT has run a successful, small team of Mental Health nurses for many years alongside the Police. This role will be to provide a service in partnership with the Liaison & Diversion team, with key aims of jointly and compassionately signposting service users into appropriate care and support.

The successful applicants will need to be an excellent motivated practitioner, able to work within another team, respecting their views and methods, while simultaneously promoting Mental Health and collaborative working. In addition, close relationships and partnership working will be essential with other key stake holders such as the Voluntary Care Sector, Local Authority, Blue light services and above all the service users and their families.

Other key areas of work that the applicant will need to focus on are: trauma informed care, ensuring older adults receive an equitable service, creating safe and inclusive pathways for all service user, a focus on the increased risks for Perinatal service users and linking in to key services to counter the impact of social deprivation.

  • To provide Mental Health assessment, sign posting and safeguarding of service user in partnership with the Liaison & Diversion Team.
  • To provide assessment in the community setting or appropriate alternative where risks or situation require.
  • To provide Mental Health Assessments in a custodial setting. Including pre release risk assessments.
  • To complete Mental Health Assessments in custody for Liaison & Diversion where indicated. This includes level of risk and need for onward services.
  • To support police custody with any Mental Health Act assessments.
  • To engage in regular joint supervision with the Trust Team Manager and Liaison & Diversion Team Manager. Discuss, reflect, and find solutions to challenges experienced in the role.
  • To deliver a high standard and quality of Mental Health assessments which enables patients to be supported throughout their pathway whilst promoting independence, care closest to home and protecting choice, dignity, privacy, and safety.
  • To work in support of other agencies in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of care and treatment.
  • To always communicate effectively with other services of the Care Trust, other partner agencies and with the patient family, carers/ visitors to ensure holistic care is delivered.
  • To provide support and supervision with members of the Liaison & Diversion Team.
  • To share relevant clinical and risk information with members of the Liaison & Diversion Team and other agencies.
