In response to the pastoral, spiritual, religious, and cultural needs of our Muslim service users, carers, and staff population across our forensic services (Prestwich site) and across Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation trust we are seeking to appoint a band 6 Mental Health Chaplain - Muslim for 15 hours a week. The role will also entail coordinating the provision of Friday prayers and occasionally leading Friday prayers for our Muslim service users in our adult forensic unit and in both coordinating and occasionally leading Friday prayers for our Muslim staff cohort at our Prestwich Spiritual Care Hub. The appointee will be based on our Prestwich site working across the forensic services (including medium and low secure services and CAMHS forensic) and in addition will be responding to referrals from Muslim service users, carers, and staff from other units across GMMH. The successful candidate will also be required to engage with all service users, staff, and carers, irrespective of their spiritual identity, and belief orientation, whether this is articulated or not, known, or unknown at the point of referral and significant encounter.

Due consideration and understanding will need to be expressed by the successful candidate in recognising the following: the faith and belief specific needs of our service users and staff, the ‘fluidity of belief and its expression’ in a psychiatric milieu, and the distinctions in identifying the pastoral and spiritual needs of service users and staff. With the opening of the Spiritual Care Hub in 2022, the appointee will be joining a warm and exciting Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care team. Supervision is central to our team culture and professional practice.

What are we looking for? We are looking for a person with established mental health chaplaincy experience, ideally in in a forensic setting who can demonstrate considerable pastoral skills within a faith specific Muslim context. And we are looking for someone who can be a chaplain in providing pastoral and spiritual care to all service users and staff irrespective of their faith or belief, spirituality, or pastoral need. We are seeking a person with flair to work alongside a variety of health care professionals in a multi-disciplinary team context.
