Job description
Woodcraft Folk is seeking an experienced Membership Assistant to support the work of our volunteers and our weekly groups for young people. This new role will be home-based, working 21 hours per week – all necessary equipment will be provided. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £20,533 to £24,574 per annum pro rata.
About the role
As our Membership Assistant, you will support the safe and effective delivery of our youth work programmes by:
- Providing advice and information to our volunteers
- Maintaining accurate records
- Conducting screening checks
- Ensuring our safeguarding systems are correctly implemented
- Dealing with enquiries from our groups, volunteers and the public
As our Membership Assistant your responsibilities will include:
- Act as a point of contact for volunteer & public enquiries by phone and email
- Process volunteer applications, responding to queries as required
- Maintain accurate up-to-date records of financial contributions and individual donors
- Maintain accurate up-to-date records of volunteers and the roles and responsibilities they hold
- Promote and record the participation of volunteers in face-to-face and online training
- Contribute to the provision of reports and management information
- Support volunteers to engage with online volunteer management systems, escalating issues and queries to the Membership & Groups Manager when required
- Process screening checks for new volunteers, including DBS & PVG checks and referencing
- Follow up queries arising from screening checks and escalate these to the safeguarding team as required
- Respond to requests for support and information from local groups, or escalate as required
- Support volunteers to carry out the administrative and financial processes of opening and closing of groups
- Update relevant pages and resources on the Woodcraft Folk website
- Maintain and update mailing lists to facilitate timely and effective email communication with volunteers and other stakeholders
- Working with the Membership & Groups Manager and Communications Manager, contribute to the planning and creation of social media content relating to volunteer and group management
What we are looking for in our Membership Assistant:
The successful candidate will have strong administrative experience and the ability to handle confidential information. Excellent communication skills and a high degree of computer literacy, including the use of cloud-based filing and database systems, are essential.
Previous experience of working in a membership organisation or supporting volunteers and familiarity with the principles of safeguarding and data protection would be an advantage in this role. Woodcraft Folk promotes flexible working, and the working pattern for this part-time role will be agreed with the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS and provide evidence of their right to work in the UK. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974)
