Job Description
The main purpose of this role will be as an internal and external communications officer.
A key part of this role will be engaging with our volunteers and young people to identify good news stories and campaigns to share across our County. This may include visiting sessions and events, and establishing and maintaining relationships with our volunteers. The postholder will also be helping to promote the County’s own activities and events, such as our large-scale camps. This will be through gathering of good stories and visual content after events have been held to be shared across social media and internal comms. The post holder will need to be able to clearly communicate what information they need and how to gather this, to our members, who typically have a wide-ranging ability for content creation. This role may also require providing hands-on training and support for our Groups and Districts, who produce their own regular membership updates also.
This role will be creating and compiling internal membership updates, and external communication updates for our stakeholders, both of which are typically sent via email. The role will also involve engagement with local media and stakeholders. This will involve ensuring the content is within the Scout brand and is accurate, accessible and engaging.
This role will manage our social media accounts, which currently includes Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The role will also maintain content for our website, ensuring it remains up to date and is readable and engaging. The role will also include working with digital marketing tools such as email marketing, Google Analytics and Search Engine Optimization.
Scout HQ run regular campaigns, which our members are encouraged to participate in. The postholder will need to keep abreast of these campaigns and facilitate how North Yorkshire Scouts may be able to participate with it. Scout HQ also provides our brand guidelines which the postholder will have to work within.
This role will also have a new responsibility in designing and producing items of merchandising for our members, for example clothing items for our volunteers. This role will take the lead in managing the stock, sales and distribution, with support of their fellow Member Support Officers.

● The postholder will be expected to attend some Scouting sessions, events and workshops, which take place across North Yorkshire. These will typically occur on weekends and in the evenings, rather than during the normal 9-5 working day.
