The acquisition has secured our role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes. As part of this programme of work our plant and equipment will be modernised over the next 10 years, creating new opportunities for the business and our colleagues.
Based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield, we are looking for a Melt Shop Operative. This role will involve operating and overseeing the equipment used in the steel melting process. The primary role is to ensure that the steel melting process is carried out efficiently, safely, and in accordance to Sheffield Forgemasters procedures. .
Role Responsibilities
- Operating an electric arc furnace to melt steel, scrap or raw materials. Including controlling temperature, power, and other parameters to achieve the desired steel composition.
- Operating the ladle furnace for secondary steelmaking refining and casting.
- Preparing our ladle fleet to ensure successful pouring of liquid steel into ingot moulds.
- General crane driving duties.
About You
The following relevant skills, knowledge and experience are required.
- Previous experience of an electric arc furnace is a distinct advantage.
- Crane driving & slinging experience.
- Ability to work a day / night shift pattern.
- Comfortable working at height and working in confined spaces.
Days/Hours of Work
An average of 40 hours per week. Days – Monday to Wednesday 06:00-18:00 and Thursday 06:00-14:00. Nights - Monday to Wednesday 18:00-06:00.
