Job description
The Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) Electrical Team Member role is vital to the effective and efficient running of our flood defence assets in and around London. You will be joining a team that maintains, repairs and improves electrical and control system infrastructure. The role is highly varied and alongside electrical work, you will assist with the operation of critical flood defences as and when they are needed. You will work in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to deal with the impacts of climate change and manage the assets that protect Central London from flooding.
As part of the Thames Barrier and Associated Gates (TBAG) Engineering Team, you will report to the Electrical Team Leader and be part of the Thames Tidal Defences (TTD) MEICA team.
Responsibilities will include:
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

- Routine and reactive maintenance across a variety of electrical equipment.
- Fault diagnosis and repairs.
- Installation, modification and replacement of electrical equipment.
- Operational role during trials/flood defence operations.

Experience/skills required
Essential
Desirable
- Understanding and respect of safe working practices and procedures.
- Electrical installation and maintenance experience.
- Experience of working to Standards, Regulations and Approved Codes of Practice.
- Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft programs.
- Educated to engineering apprenticeship level or equivalent with wide vocational experience.
Desirable
- BS7671 18th edition qualification
- Electrical Installation 2360 Parts 1&2 or an NVQ Level 3 equivalent.
- JIB/ECS card
- City & Guilds 2391/2394 & 2395 inspection and testing
- Experience of hydraulics, HV distribution, SCADA, instrumentation or telemetry systems

Additional allowances per annum are:
£3,889 - London Weighting
£6,000 for Chartered or £3,000 for an Incorporated MEICA engineer registered with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
When trained and competent:
£3,856 - Standby Allowance (calculated at £148.34 per week covering 1 week in 2 over 52 weeks) and
£3,000 - Site Allowance
