HOURS: Total Weekly hours 37.
Monday 8.00am to 4.30pm
Tuesday 7.15am to 12.00pm
Wednesday 8.00am to 4.30pm
Thursday 8.00am to 4.30pm
Friday 8.00am to 6.45pm
Main Duties
- Ensure an effective and efficient reception and telephone service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
- Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments following practice procedures
- Explain test results as per doctors’ instructions and action tasks appropriately and efficiently
- Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are directed to the most appropriate part of the service
- Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed
- Open up premises at the start of the day when first to arrive and make all necessary preparations to receive patients ·
- Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members and external agencies
- Photocopy documentation as required
- Input data into the patients’ healthcare records as necessary
- Action requests for information, e.g. SAR, insurance/solicitors’ letters and DVLA forms
- Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
- Maintain a clean and tidy waiting room
- Monitor and maintain the reception area
- Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested

Desirable Experience:
- Previous Experience of working in the NHS or Primary Care
- Use medical terminology
- Pharmacy experience/dispensary

Essential Qualifications:
General education to GCSE/O-level standard including; English, Maths and IT Skills
Desirable Qualifications:
Typing qualifications, Higher education, NVQ2 and NVQ3, GPhC qualification, Commitment to further professional development
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Competencies:
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, tact, discretion and respect for confidentiality, a pleasant and confident telephone manner, reliability and honesty, time management, ability to use initiative.
