Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual in a laboratory support role to join our team for our Microbiology Laboratories as Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant to provide support as we implement out new laboratory information system further across our pathology services.
You will be required to train in the relevant disciplines now to see how the department works now before the system arrives and then help with the introduction into departments.

Your role will involve supporting the Biomedical Scientists working in the Laboratories whilst working for a Trust with a successful track record of delivering high quality acute medical and surgical services for patients across Suffolk and North Essex.

Job Summary
- Performs a number of healthcare science clinical/technical/scientific activities under supervision, e.g. performs standard tests.
- Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out; may input/interrogate test results of others.
- May be required to supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced staff in own area.
- To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 days per week service.
- The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, swabs and respiratory secretions.
- Maintain and promote professional image of the pathology department.
