Job description
You will support the Biomedical Scientists by performing a wide variety of tasks associated with the processing of samples. Duties vary between departments and include the sorting, preparation, processing and handling of blood, urine, tissue and bodily fluids.
This post is based at the Queens Hospital Burton Site. You will work within a rotational shift system covering core hours between 7am and 9pm. There will also be an expectation to work weekends, bank holidays and other shifts set within a 24/7 period to ensure adequate service provision.
You should have an interest in science, be self-confident and motivated. You must possess a wide range of skills demonstrating good numeracy and literacy, a high standard of verbal and written English, keyboard data entry skills and attention to detail. We are interested in staff with a can do attitude who like to be busy.
You will also be required to undertake housekeeping duties, maintenance of equipment and disposal of clinical waste therefore the ability to multi-task and work flexibly are essential.
- To undertake the reception and processing of all clinical specimens prior to testing
- To carry out simple analytical procedures
- To act as front line staff for visitors and enquiries, forwarding them onto the correct person
- To assist the out of hours duty biomedical scientists in the provision of the evenings and/or weekend service.
- To make up consumable orders for distribution to wards and GP’s
