Medical Laboratory Assistant - Development and Implementation Manchester, England

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
Full Time Manchester, England 22816 - 24336 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

An opportunity has arisen to join the Willink laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. This is a fixed term 18 month post working full time Monday to Friday. The Willink Biochemical Genetics laboratory has a national and international reputation as a centre specialising in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with rare inherited metabolic disorders, particularly the lysosomal storage disorders. The laboratory has close links with the clinical service and therefore laboratory staff are able to see how their work contributes to the care of these patients.

The Post holder will assist Clinical and Biomedical Scientists in projects to develop and transfer metabolic biochemistry analyses on state-of-the-art equipment in line with the ISO 15189 standard. This will include liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) methods. Experience with these techniques is highly desirable, although training and support will be provided. This fixed term post is an excellent opportunity for candidates with an interest in these analytical platforms and/or to develop their analytical skills in a healthcare laboratory setting.
