Applications are invited for the post of Medical Laboratory Assistant to work in the Clinical Chemistry/Haematology departments of Blood Sciences, at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.
It's an exciting time with a new Blood Sciences laboratory open covering haematology, blood transfusion and clinical chemistry. The job purpose is to provide laboratory, clerical & data entry support and reception cover as part of a laboratory team. You will spend 3 days working in Haematology/Blood Transfusion and 2 days working in the Chemistry laboratory.
The receipt of samples from within the hospital and surrounding GP practices.
Sample preparation, request data entry and presentation for analysis as appropriate.
To support the specific and technical and clerical duties alongside Biomedical Scientists as part of a team to facilitate the smooth running of the service.
This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week. A flexible attitude to working hours is essential. The hours are currently within a framework of 08.00–20.00 including weekend & Bank Holiday working. These arrangements are subject to continuing review.

Deal with reception and telephone queries from users outside of the department.
To support the specific technical and clerical duties in a section of the Department, working with Biomedical Scientists as part of a team, to facilitate the smooth running of the service.
Provides training for new/inexperienced staff, teaching through a buddy system initially.
Applies departmental quality system to all aspects of the work.
Observe and apply the Directorate and Trust Health and Safety and Security policies.
