SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Medical Assistant works as a team member supporting clerical and clinical duties in the cardiac diagnostic center’s noninvasive testing area supporting and working under the supervision of the center’s nursing staff. The MA is responsible for the safe and timely throughput of patients at the center, including completion of records before and after the center visit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Prepare patients for noninvasive testing by explaining test, answering questions, completes pre-test paperwork and prepares skin for lead placement,
- Obtains 12- lead EKG when requested.
- Places IV for stress testing and cardiac echo when indicated
- Assist nursing and nuclear staff with stress testing: enter patient information in stress lab system, connect electrodes, take rest, and stress blood pressures and perform testing functions as required, assuring patient safety.
- Follows direction provided by nursing staff and lead nurse
- Cancels FIN’s for nonarrivals, no reschedule. Assists in preparing letters to providers.
- Completes charge reconciliation.
- Assures test results are in EMR and were faxed to the ordering/CC provider(s).
- Perform front desk check-in; verify insurance and demographic information, updating registration information as needed. Works with scheduler to troubleshoot and resolve pending order information or insurance issues. Alerts clinical staff to patients’ arrival.
- Collects and notes money collections to patient account. Follows policy to balance the drawer.
- Works with schedulers with high order volume or as requested. Schedule and register patient verifying time, provide instructions, complete all appropriate fields, prepare chart, complete pre-admission forms.
- Responds to coder needs as requested.
- Answer phones, take clear message for clinical staff, answering questions or otherwise researching and providing appropriate response
- Makes reminder calls to patient the day prior to their appointment.
- Maintain medical records, file, or scan to records as required. Release medical records per policy.
- Maintain patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records and patient information
- Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established standards and procedures, complying with regulations.
- Keep medical-surgical supplies, office supplies and laundry stocked: place orders for supplies, receive supplies and restock. Follows unit policy for
- Knows how to operate appropriate office-based equipment: fax, scanner, computer, printer, etc.
- Demonstrate proficiency with software applications that fall within job responsibility.
- Orient and mentor new staff as requested. Participate in hospital and departmental meetings, completes required updates and education.
- Take initiative to take on new tasks, assist others to complete daily work, take ownership of work
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Graduate of Medical Assistant program or one-year comparable experience in an outpatient/inpatient or physician office setting providing direct patient care.
- High School Graduate
- 1-2 years working outpatient experience preferred
- CPR/BLS certified
EXPERIENCE
- Phlebotomy skills required. Working knowledge of aseptic/sterile technique and Infection Control principles.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
