National Vision is currently looking for an Optometric Medical Assistant (starting pay 18.00 an hour) to join our growing remote care team!
Anticipated schedule: 9-5:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 9-4:30 Saturday.
Job Summary
The role as completes optometric pre-screenings and other duties during a Remote Optical exam. This position is instrumental to both the patient and the Optometrist; this role enables the Doctor to perform a quality and comprehensive medical exam, while simultaneously interacting and communicating with patients.
What Would You Do? The Specifics.
- Responsible for assisting patients during pre-testing and during the remote eye exam. Performs the onsite duties required enabling the Remote Optometrist to complete a thorough exam.
- Understands ocular terminology and diseases and knows the ocular abbreviations. Documents patient files as need or directed by the Doctor.
- Effectively communicates pre-testing and exam steps to the patient, ensuring the patient is comfortable and confident in the quality of the comprehensive eye exam provided by the Optometrist
- Completes visual field testing and retinal screening photos required by Remote Exams.
- Reviews prescriptions and/or patient information carefully and identifies special needs.
- Consults with the optician, Doctor or Retail Management when necessary.
- Understand patient and customer concerns, effectively resolves through communication. Partners with District Manager when necessary to resolve customer service concerns.
- Oversees the Remote Exam Scheduler, receives new appointments, confirms and attempts to schedule appointments as needed.
- Receives payment and completes financial paperwork needed to record exam revenue and expenses accurately.
- Fills out referral forms and follow-up paperwork as required.
- Follows all safety protocols and ensures equipment, both Doctor's and pre-test are properly maintained.
- Orders and maintains supplies and pharmaceuticals as directed.
- Follows all store and corporate policies and procedures.
- Participates in regularly scheduled mandatory communications meetings in order to keep informed of changes in corporate policies and initiatives.
Work Experience
- 3+ years Medical Technician Experience (Required)
- 3+ years Retail Experience with Keyholding Responsibility (Required)
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred
Licenses, Certifications, Professional Affiliations
- Internal National Vision Certified Optometric Technician - Level 1 or 2 Upon Hire (Preferred)
Additional Skills
- Previous retail/optical experience preferred, but not required. Preferred
- Ability to learn optical knowledge.
