This full-time position travels to offices, which include Canton, Torrington, Simsbury, Southington, Farmington, West Hartford, East Hartford, and Storrs. At UConn Health, this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in scheduling, patient flow, assisting with patients and routine clinical tasks in an outpatient, inpatient or specialty setting.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Maintains smooth and efficient patient flow; may perform routine procedures i.e., vital signs, height, weight, visual acuity, urine testing, in accordance with protocols;
Prepares patients; assists with exams and special procedures;
Instructs patients as outlined for basic diagnostic procedures/ treatments/specimen collections;
Refers patients to appropriate physician/nursing staff when special needs are identified;
Reports pertinent observations to nurse and/or physician;
Charts activities in the record;
Participates in implementation of care plans;
Attends interdisciplinary meetings; prepares rooms and work area for clinics, including stocking of rooms and carts;
Inventories and orders equipment;
Checks equipment and reports that which is malfunctioning; answers phone and performs clerical work as needed;
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY:
Knowledge of medical assisting practices;
Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, routines;
Considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills;
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program [CAAHEP or ABHES] and designation as a Certified Medical Assistant [CMA] by AAMA or an equivalent certifying body, OR
Designation as a credentialed medical assistant (ABR-OE) from AAMA or an equivalent certifying body, OR
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), OR
A Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain certification/credentialing as a medical assistant, certification as an EMT, or State of CT Licensure as an LPN.
It is REQUIRED that you upload a copy of your current MA, LPN, or EMT credentials/certification at the time of application.
Must possess and maintain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. This is the only accepted credential.
Other CPR/AED credentials may be accepted at hire but incumbents will be required to obtain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain through employment.
May travel to satellite offices, which include Canton, Torrington, Simsbury, Southington, Farmington, West Hartford, East Hartford, and Storrs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in a medicine pratice office
Next Gen or EPIC expeience
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 60-minute unpaid meal break.
