Medical Assistant, Surgery - First Shift - Full Time - UCMC
UC Health is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant (MA) for first shift to support Thoracic Surgery at UC Medical Center.

Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
- Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms and signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
- Performs treatments, administers medication and/or operates equipment safely.
- Obtain vital signs, EKG's, laboratory specimens and other necessary information as required for proper evaluation of patient in accordance with the Medical Assistant competencies always utilizing universal precautions.
- Assists the provider in documenting notes, orders and prescriptions by setting them up in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Maintain maintenance of the clinic area including but not to limited to: cleaning and stocking examination rooms, daily setup and securing of computer (laptops) equipment, and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.
- Return routine patient telephone calls as directed and document actions taken.
- Coordinate ancillary services such as diagnostic testing/imaging, hospital procedures and/or admission, additional patient visits, and acquisition of pertinent medical records.
- Maintain positive, professional and cooperative demeanor throughout all interactions.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
- Seeks knowledge and understanding of quality measures and patient experience.
- Greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, updating and filing patient medical records/insurance forms.
- Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services.
- Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping and using computer applications.
- Assist in the implementation of age-appropriate care for specific patient population including provision of direct patient care as part of the clinical team.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or GED, minimum required.
Years of Experience: Seven to eleven months equivalent experience preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with patients of all education levels.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to work without close supervision and to set own priorities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
- Ability to utilize electronic health record software.
