MAJOR PURPOSE OF THE POST To provide clinical and clerical support to the Practice clinical team, including the Dermatology service B. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The post holder will undertake some or all duties from a specific list which the practice deems as warranting the senior grading of this post Clinical Taking of blood (venepuncture) Undertaking of ECG tests Urine testing Blood pressure monitoring Glucometer readings Dressings Suture Removal Injections-B12/Flu/Pneumonia Assistance with Minor Ops Assistance with Coil Fittings Any other clinical tasks as may reasonably be required Important the postholder is only required to undertake tests and procedures. Any interpretation of clinical outcomes is the responsibility of nurses or GPs Clerical Sending Specimens to the hospital laboratory Use of computer for recording and obtaining information Completion of forms Restocking of trolleys, leaflets racks and sharps boxes Maintenance records of clinical equipment Ordering of supplies and equipment Other clerical duties as required C.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED The post holder reports directly to the Lead Practice Nurse (the postholders Line Manager) and the Partners. Given the part-time nature of the Lead Practice Nurse, the postholder will also report to the other Practice Nurses for advice and guidance. D. SUPERVISION EXERCISED The postholder has no day to day line management responsibility and does not directly manage members of staff on a regular basis.
The post holder will be available to advise more junior members of the team on matters arising within the position, working within defined protocols and policy guidelines. E. DECISIONS EXERCISED The postholder is only able to take decisions on day-to-day matters within existing policy guidelines, protocols and safe practice systems. The postholder will not be required to interpret clinical outcomes.
Decisions requiring any change from existing guidelines and protocols must be referred to line manager, or in his /her absence a senior member of the nursing team or a Partner. F. CREATIVITY The postholder is required to work within strict medical guidelines and protocols. There is scope for creativity in relation to the way the postholder contributes to the organisation of the service and operates the clerical systems and procedures.
Any changes must be agreed with the Line Manager G. CONTACTS The postholder will have contact with patients, suppliers, hospital laboratory staff and all members of the Primary Health Care Team H. EDUCATION The postholder will be educated to GCSE standard or equivalent, but there are no specific subject requirements. Specific training, where available, will be offered to the individual to ensure ongoing development within the role, including HCA NVQ.
I. EXPERIENCE Previous experience in the Health Service is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided on all aspects of the post. J.
