The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant position is to perform routine duties for Internal Medicine Center requiring judgment within general guidelines. Interface directly with patients and family members and respond to their needs according to program agendas, appointment scheduling, and available resources.
Shift: 7:30am-4pm, Monday-Friday
The ideal candidate will be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).

Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred Education: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
EXPERIENCE

Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Patient Care
- Rooms patients in preparation for treatment/service which includes taking
history and documenting vital signs, allergy, and fall assessment information into Clinic Station along with any lab work ordered that has been completed; wrist banding. - Provides transportation of patients for transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift, and move patients as needed.
- Processes all required paperwork. Print and post daily schedules.
- Assists with appropriate faxes; Actives code blue/MERIT team when needed.
- Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
- Complete opening and closing activities (setup exam rooms, restock exam room), clean equipment, instruments and rooms, prepare patients for providers,
- Updates relevant patient information in order to maintain an accurate patient record.
- Assists in ensuring a safe environment for patients, co-workers and visitors.
- Greets, screens, and routes patients/visitors and telephone callers in a friendly, cordial manner to the Supportive Care Center and the institution using telephone, keyboard, information systems and strong interpersonal skills with specific emphasis on customer service.
- Listens to needs of patients and offers resources as appropriate.
- Keeps track of program agendas and offers and informs patients/visitors of appropriate services available to them.
- Assists participants in registration process ensuring completion of required paperwork, inclusive of physician orders and eligibility requirements as appropriate. Maintains participant/patient related files and documentation.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in rapid succession and effectively respond to a variety of individuals and situations.
- Specimen collection and transportation to lab.
- Provide patients with instrumental and educational materials, File documents into medical records, Coordinate Language Assistance when needed, Assists with environmental audits/logs; cleanliness to meet Joint Commission standards;
- Deliver medical records to black box, prepare clinic for ZIP rounds, Processes forms (Return to work, DME company request, signed home health, physical, occupational, speech therapy orders, etc), Updates white board; Manages PAR/linen/supply levels; Retrieves medications from pharmacy; Assists Physical Medicine physicians with all patient procedures (including but not limited to US-guided injections, Botox injections, joint and trigger point injections, acupuncture). Assists Prehab patients with coordination of PT visit, phone call logs and record keeping, providing proactive follow up calls; Assists with patient phone calls when appropriate.
Room Maintenance
- Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical
equipment. - Prepares/stocks rooms and maintains inventories of medical supplies plus
linens. - Responsible for general room set up at start of day as well as change out as per
program requirements/specifications including, but not limited to stacking of chairs, moving of tables, placement of supplies/equipment. - Contact Biomed with equipment/supply maintenance/issues.
Scheduling
- Processes requests and coordinates patient/program scheduling using strong
verbal, listening and written communication skills. - Accesses participant database to review registration information and completion. Call patients regarding missed appointments, coordinate scheduling of support services (acupuncture/massage therapists, dietician, social work, etc).
- Documents patient registration and activities in designated database/s. Maintains databases and generates routine and as-requested reports from databases using computation and formatting skills.
- Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures and treatment in the OneConnect system as well as other center scheduling systems.
- Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, prepayment, and financial counseling to patients, families, physicians, team members and other patient care areas.
- Handles and processes a complex and varied set of documents and situations.
- Interprets and coordinates physician Orders.
- Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records.
- Retrieves preprinted forms from various institutional databases and submits completed forms to HIMS for scanning.
