Pay Range: $ 20.75/hr - $ 23.47/hr
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant II is an unlicensed individual with limited training who performs basic administrative, clerical (front office) tasks and routine medical (back office) tasks and procedures under direct supervision of a licensed physician or designated mid-level providers in a clinical setting. They assist the medical providers and may perform within the scope of practice of a medical assistant to include: placing patients in exam rooms, collect and record patient data including medications, height, weight vital signs, pain and fatigue rating, fall risk, prepare patients for clinician evaluation. The Medical Assistant will frequently be required to apply and remove dressings, give injections, perform lab draws and other similar procedures. The Medical Assistant will also administer intramuscular, subcutaneous and inhaled medications. The Medical Assistant will be able to assist the needs of the four locations within the Cancer Center
Minimum:
- Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program OR Associates degree or higher in a clinical healthcare field (such as LVN, RN, Medical Technologist) and two years back office medical experience
- One year Medical Assistant experience
- Previous phlebotomy experience
Desired:
Front medical office experience to include: reception; registration, scheduling, billing and medical record functions
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
Current CPR certification
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Must be skilled at blood draws and administering injections. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and public. Must demonstrate basic medical / technical competence, a general knowledge of point of care laboratory equipment and capable of utilizing clerical and computer skills for a variety of medical office support functions. Must show sensitivity for the patient and their family and maintain strict confidentiality. Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment. Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential.
