We're looking for someone to join our team as a Lead Medical Assistant who:

Will perform routine patient care, technical and supportive functions in a medical clinic setting under the direction of the clinical supervisor. The Lead Medical Assistant will function within the scope of practice as described by the State of California Board. Acts as a preceptor/mentor to other MAs and is a subject matter expert in MA functions. As designed by the Practice Manager, the Lead Medical Assistant will manage clinical staff scheduling, approve timecards, and assist in management of the clinic as designated


Essential Functions
:

  • As a member of our team, the Lead MA will:
    • Actively engage and promote the Clinica Sierra Vista Production System (CSVPS).
    • Complete the Base Level CSVPS training and participate in Kaizen activities’ ongoing execution and management.
  • Perform routine patient care functions as prescribed by licensed heath care providers following established clinical protocols, policies, and procedures within their scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
  • Facilitate the practice of their assigned provider(s) by performing routine clerical functions as assigned. Including, but not limited to the following:
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Update patient demographics.
  • Check patients in and out of their appointment.
  • Answer calls-manage office telephone systems.
  • Answer patient inquiries within the scope of practice for Medical Assistants.
  • Return calls and answer in basket messages; routing calls to nurse/provider.
  • Take messages and route to in-basket or nurse/provider.
  • Take medication refill requests and route to in-basket or nurse/provider.
  • Identify urgent/emergent calls and direct to nurse/provider accordingly.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by provider order.
  • Verify patient identity using two forms of identification. (i.e., Name and Date of Birth) as per HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist medical personnel with special procedures, minor surgical procedures, and/or diagnostic examinations.
  • Assist providers with routine medical examinations, closing care gaps, health care maintenance.
  • Assist providers with procedures as required.
  • Apply principles of infection control practices adopted by Clinica Sierra Vista.
  • Perform Venipuncture among other lab duties.
  • Provide compassionate patient support and care.
  • Provide attention and assistance to patient during office visits.
  • Greet patients and provide excellent customer service.
  • Document pertinent patient information, nursing procedures, and patient response in the Electronic Health Records System (ERH), following established guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Legibly date and sign handwritten documentation with all appropriate entries (i.e., first initial, last name, and title). Completing all pre-printed prompts as required.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in the care of the newborn, infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients ranging from 0-100+years of age.
  • Functions as a primary preceptor/mentor/trainer to new and tenured Medical Assistants.
  • Medical Assistants assigned to the “Float” department will be required to cross train in all specialties across CSV and travel as needed from site-to-site


You'll be successful with the following qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program Required.
  • Current State of California Medical Assistant Certification is required.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient setting; preferably in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
  • Possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Card required.
  • Possess and maintain a California Driver’s license.
  • Venipuncture experience preferred at time of hire, competency must be obtained within one (1) year of hire date. Current staff must receive competency in venipuncture within one (1) year of the job descriptions revision date.
  • Experience in EHR Documentation is required.
  • Willingness to work well with all Community Health Center Staff and ancillary departments
  • Commitment to the concept of preventative medicine and team approach to health care delivery.
  • Willingness to participate aggressively in the expanded role of the Medical Assistant.
  • Willingness to learn about patients and their potential health risks.
  • Respect and understand that as a healthcare professional the Medical Assistant provides competent support within the scope of practice as set forth by the Medical Board of California, with compassion and respect for human diversity and dignity.
  • Provide services with full respect of the rights of patients and colleagues, and safeguard patient confidence and privacy in accordance with the law, including but not limited to HIPAA compliance requirements.
  • Practice the profession with honesty, integrity, and accountability, respecting all laws and regulations and avoiding any false, fraudulent, or deceptive activities.
  • Continue to learn, maintaining and improving all knowledge and skills necessary for the ever-changing healthcare environment.
  • Recognize a responsibility to contribute to the improvement of the community and betterment of public health.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, advise, teach, and guide preceptees.
  • Work collaboratively with a team, supporting each team member, and working towards one common goal.
  • Must adhere to CSV’s employee health/immunization requirements or provide a valid approved exemption request.
