OVERVIEW:
The Medical Assistant I (MA I) support the delivery of urological services, performs work as required and functions as an effective member of the AUS interdisciplinary team. The Medical Assistant I is tasked to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the medical offices running smoothly. This position collaborates/work with staff within their SBU or other professional disciplines within the AUS affiliated medical groups as needed to achieve effective and efficient patient care delivery and the desired patient outcomes. Depending on the size of an SBU, the job duties may vary.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Medical Assistant I will have the following accountabilities (but are not limited to):
1. The MA I will perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor within their SBU.
2. The MA I will consistently confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments of patients.
3. Greets and prepare patients for their assigned SBU Physician.
4. Performs the following clinical duties as necessary:
a. Measures and records vital signs
b. Records patient interview, history, and chief complaint
c. Provides patient education with regards to medications, management of diseases, home treatments and special diets
d. Prepares patients for examinations and performs routing screening tests
e. Assists physicians with exams
f. Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens
g. Performs basic lab test
h. Performs EKG’s
i. Assists with X-ray and physician therapy procedures
j. Prepares and administers medications with physician authorization
k. Changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures
l. Uses CPR skills when necessary
m. Prepares accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times
5. Make sure that the office is opened in the morning and closed in the afternoon (Closing and Opening responsibilities attached)
6. Assist in maintaining patient logs for the following:
a. Lab requests, CT scans and other treatment orders for the patients
b. Prescription ledger when needed
7. Maintaining the back office with good flow
a. Keeping rooms full
b. Assist with room turnover
c. New patient thorough work-up (x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation)
d. Adding medical history on all new patients and update all established patients’ history in InPracSys accurately.
e. Accurate and complete room set-up for physician
f. Ensures that all patients medication is updated in InPracSys before the physicians sees patients
8. Set-up for in office Surgical procedures
a. Appropriate consent completed correctly avoiding the use of too many medical abbreviations within the consent forms
b. Room set-up complete
9. Scribe as assigned per physician office flow
10. Preparation for seeing patients the following day
a. Patient confirmations for following day
11. Completes patient medical record requests when necessary
12. Maintaining controls for the UA and PSA machine for offices that have these devices available
13. Assist with other administrative projects and tasks as needed.
14. Ensures proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed
15. Meets established attendance criteria and starts work promptly. Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts

17. Consistently demonstrates good use of time and resources.
18. Adherence to HR, Corporate policies and procedures.
19. Ensuring that all medical records are accurate and complete within the SBU for all patients.
20. Ensuring compliance of healthcare regulations, medical laws and high ethical standards.
21. Regularly adheres and supports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA CMS guidelines for Parts C D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste Abuse.
22. Performs other position related duties as assigned
EDUCATION CERTIFICATION:
Graduate from a recognized college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and/or a Programmatically Accredited Medical Assisting Education. CPR certification is required. Yearly OSHA and CLIA training will also be required.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The MA I must have a minimum of 1-year experience in a physician office setting preferably within the urology specialty. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient interpersonal relations skills. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the knowledge of: Internet Software; Word Processing Software (Microsoft Word); Electronic Mail Software (Microsoft Outlook); Electronic Health Records (EMR Software); Practice Management Software (AllScripts):
