Job description
Is the news part of your daily agenda? Are you in tune with what’s happening nationally and locally to your area? Sheffield has a lot to discuss and a huge programme of work that we need to shout about.
Sheffield City Council are looking for a Media Relations Officer who loves to be in the thick of the action, who enjoys a fast paced, busy role where no two days are the same.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced media relations professional who has creative flair, and who wants to support Sheffield’s diverse community in the work they do.
We are looking for someone with ‘news sense’ who will bring energy and ideas to the table and who can engage our communities and the media with interesting, informing and exciting content both in print and digitally.
You will employ great organisational skills, being able to work under pressure, with things changing at moment’s notice. We are looking for someone who can confidently provide information to a range of stakeholders, to build relationships with key contacts and can provide high quality written and digital work to tight deadlines.
We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.
It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.
Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
