Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of technical duties related to the coordination, distribution, operation, maintenance and repair of instructional media equipment including audio-visual equipment and computer hardware and software. This position will also have a basic understanding of networking concepts and building infrastructure as they pertain to audio/video applications; coordinate and provide various instructional media services, such as taping, editing and producing physical and digital audio/video content and troubleshooting related technology issues; develop district media learning systems in both existing spaces and new construction; develop and maintain programming of audio/video control systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Oversee and coordinate the operation and utilization of instructional media services including media hardware and software and the technical aspects of instructional multi-media equipment.

Coordinate and assign workflow of personnel.

Perform a variety of specialized technical duties related to the acquisition, preparation, utilization and inventory of instructional media materials, equipment and facilities.

Maintain, troubleshoot and repair a variety of instructional services equipment and machines including projectors, audio and video recorders, television monitors, cameras, LCD monitors, document duplicating and editing equipment and other audio-visual equipment.

Oversee the server and player operation and maintenance of networked and standalone digital signage systems and provide relevant training and support.

Install, test, troubleshoot, and perform adjustments to classroom desktop and laptop computers and peripherals.

Knowledge and use of networked based servers for installation, re-imaging, and adjustments and maintenance of computers.

Provide the design, installation, and testing for "smart classroom" electronic media and digital systems, including equipment necessary for ADA compliance, and technical support for various types of laptops, peripherals, tablets and smartphones.

Provide technical information, training and assistance to district personnel in the use and utilization of instructional media services and equipment; provide information concerning applicable laws and regulations as requested.

Communicate with vendors and suppliers to obtain information concerning instructional services equipment and prices; recommend the purchase of specific brands and types of audio and visual equipment and approved suggested substitutions.

Oversee, coordinate and maintain streaming audio/video productions.

Prepare and maintain a variety of records, files and reports related to instructional services equipment and functions, including maintenance and replacement scheduling of instructional equipment.

Train and provide work direction to assigned hourly personnel and student workers; assign and review work; participate in selection, hiring and evaluation processes as required.

Operate a variety of instructional services equipment and machines including audio visual equipment, computer hardware and software, hand and power tools and satellite communication equipment.

Work closely with faculty, Information Systems personnel, and other parties affected by instructional media services.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Coordinate and provide in classroom video production to develop on campus instructional programs.

Provide recommendation to assigned supervisor regarding the audio/video technology and related infrastructure needs in regards to renovation and new construction. Meet with building contractors and stakeholders as requested.

Record video programs for classroom use; provide video editing and duplicating services for the District; provide technical assistance in audio/video production, design and editing for district presentations as required.

Coordinate satellite TV reception and distribution for campus videoconferences, teleconferences and off-air recordings.

Attend meetings and represent the departments as requested.

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Basic principles and practices of the maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.
  • Basic wired and wireless networking concepts and hardware and associated cabling as they pertain to the setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of audio/video devices.
  • Basic computer concepts as they pertain to the output and control of audio/video signals and related software, which may include driver and software settings.
  • Proprietary software necessary to program and communicate with standard audio/video hardware and create basic control interfaces for audio/video systems.
  • Basic understanding of building infrastructure wiring plans/diagrams (electrical and data) and ability to properly and safely mount audio/video equipment (such as televisions and projectors).
  • Knowledge of network based servers for installation, re-imaging, and adjustments and maintenance of computers.
  • Digital signage systems.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital technical specifications and requirements as they relate to the production, presentation and duplication of audio/video content.
  • Techniques and principles of satellite transmission.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

  • Provide technical information and assistance related to instructional services to others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by two years college-level course work in instructional media technology or related field and two years instructional media services experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Instructional Media Services Center environment; subject to lifting, climbing, adverse weather conditions and contact with equipment cleaning chemicals.

Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate electric carts and/or motor vehicles on public and/or private roadways.
