Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general direction of the web and digital media coordinator, develop comprehensive digital media strategies for Bernalillo County, including assigned divisions and/or county elected official(s). Work with internal departments within respective divisions to promote, publicize and advance project objectives of the internal assigned division and/or county elected official(s) initiative. Assignments to be coordinated through web and digital media coordinator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Post daily, including reposting of other Bernalillo County digital media platform’s posts and positive external media posts.
  • Respond to comments in a way that positively reflects the county and strives for maximum customer service.
  • Periodically review secondary digital media channels of other departments not in Communication Services for accuracy and style.
  • Plan, design, create, edit, and publish relevant content based on county objectives.
  • Oversee interactions with the public through implementing content strategies on digital media platforms.
  • Generate a digital media marketing strategy that will promote customer engagement and brand awareness.
  • Define the segment of public to be reached and execute the most effective techniques to reach the public through digital media.
  • Secure material from picture sources and/or artists and photographers to produce pictures and illustrations appropriate for web.
  • Create and maintain a calendar and a process for needed web content and resource updates; working with subject matter experts and content owners across the organization as needed to ensure the county’s web presence is accurate, updated, and useful.
  • Assist in the development of public awareness campaigns for county programs, services, and initiatives using exhibits, videography, photography, and simple graphic design.
  • Make recommendations on the use of county funds, resources, equipment, and materials as it relates to digital outreach.
  • When called upon by the web and digital media coordinator, represent the county, in appearances with various media, when assigned, to public, community organizations, businesses, and other groups requesting Bernalillo County information.
  • Develop and prepare summary reports of all areas of responsibilities.
  • Review and maintain digital media analytic reports; yearly, quarterly, and monthly.
  • Provide editorial support on a variety of digital content as needed.
  • Assist the web team with updating website content for assigned division and/or elected official(s)
  • Gather, write and/or coordinate related Bernalillo County information to ensure dynamic and updated content on the web.
  • Work with web development team to advise and implement web strategies and tactics
  • Analyze and recommend content improvements including photography, graphic design, and layout
  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, or related academic field, plus two (2) years professional experience in public information, OR any combination of post-secondary education and/or experience totaling six (6) years professional experience in public information.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to use digital media effectively.
  • Must have knowledge of mass communication principles and practices journalism, public affairs, public relations, planning, and scheduling techniques.
  • Must have the ability to develop digital designs and layout of content, be creative, use initiative, and ability to use various communication software and tools, such as camera, video and image editing.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with the public, elected official(s), county personnel, and the media.
  • Excels at communication skills with a great understanding of communications practices and techniques including familiarity and use of AP style guidelines.
  • Ability to gather data, compile and analyze information and prepare summary reports.

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  • Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination.
  • Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the county.
  • Employee must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and retain a
    valid license while employed in this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Essential duties are performed primarily indoors (90%) and occasionally outdoors (10%).
  • Indoor duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment. Worker is exposed to natural weather conditions while performing outdoor duties.
  • Indoor duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tile. Working surface is typically dry.
  • Outdoor duties may be performed on both even and uneven surfaces which may be either wet or dry. Surfaces may be inclined or flat, and range from gravel, asphalt, or concrete.
  • Most duties are performed alone. Worker may perform certain duties as a part of a select team of individuals.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  • Equipment typically used in the performance of duties include cameras, smartphone, computer, and relevant software.
  • Materials and products handled in the course of performing essential duties include files, forms, reports, various other paperwork, and a wide variety of basic office supplies.
  • County vehicle is used on an occasional basis.
