JOB TITLE : Library Media Specialist
DEPARTMENT : Instruction
REPORTS TO : Site Principal

JOB DESCRIPTION : Complies with Local Education Plan, Oklahoma’s Priority Academic Skills and the No Child Left Behind Act. Instructs students in curricular activities designed to promote social physical and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible adults. Applies knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program. Plans and implements lessons based on district objectives and the needs of assigned students.
Complies with the standards of performance and conduct for teachers as
set forth by the state department of education. Establishes effective
rapport with students and develops positive and effective relationships
with parents and other staff members. Observes all rules, regulations,
policies and practices of the District and administration.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree and valid Oklahoma certification required;
meets highly qualified status as per No Child Left Behind and
Oklahoma State Department of Education; demonstrated current
knowledge of children’s and/or young adult literature.
SKILLS/ABILITIES : Ability to read, analyze and interpret written information; skill in
writing required reports/correspondence; ability to effectively
present information orally and respond to questions from others,
work with mathematical concepts and apply to practical
situations; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a
variety of variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

- Embraces the goals of continuous school improvement and increasing student
achievement through management of the school media center. Teaches information
literacy skills to students and administers the reading management program.
- Evaluates the library program, establishes goals, and administers the library budget.
- Creates and sustains a library environment with effective and well communicated library
operating procedures. Follows library practices that reflect legal guidelines and
professional standards.
- Develops and maintains a library collection that supports the total instructional program
and integrates library services with the district educational program. Selects materials that
appeal to a wide variety of library users in accordance with BOE policy.
- Participates in the learning process towards the achievement of district curriculum and district goals by contributing as a member of the instructional team in curriculum development. Collaborates with classroom teachers.
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and
administrative regulations.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials
and facilities.
- Creates a library environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the
maturity and interests of the students; establishes clear standards of pupil behavior and provides a pleasant, safe and orderly climate conducive to learning.
- Develops and maintains lesson plans and instructional material appropriate to district curriculum which may be adapted to the needs of each student.
- Communicates regularly with parents both inside and outside the normal contract day.
- Accepts and performs teaching and any other duties, including co-curricular and
extracurricular duties, as assigned by the superintendent and principal as may be
needed to maintain the educational programs offered by the District.
- Attends all meetings as required by the superintendent and principal.
- Complies with the assigned duty times of the teacher contract day.
ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR:
Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Must be able to respond rapidly and
appropriately to needs of students. Must build harmonious rapport and work cooperatively
with administrators, site staff, students and parents.
ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:
Able to be in attendance as contracted and for extra duties as assigned per district policy.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Primarily inside working conditions; some exposure to environmental conditions during
outside duty.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $42,121.00 per year
