PETA is seeking a media officer to join its small but highly effective media team, which is responsible for promoting animal rights through television, radio, print, and digital outlets. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the media to gain exposure for PETA’s campaigns and make the public aware of issues that affect animals. Position Objective:
To boost PETA’s work for animals by generating media coverage

Full-time
Location:
London/remote within the UK (The ideal candidate will work from the London office at least one day a week.)
Reports to:
Media and Communications Manager, PETA Foundation
Salary:
£27,000–£31,000, depending on experience
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Prepare news releases, media statements, advisories, opinion pieces, and letters to the editor
- Draft various media communications materials in accordance with PETA’s in-house style
- Develop and execute a strategy for presenting stories to selected media outlets to secure coverage
- Develop and coordinate new media campaigns and ideas to attract increased media attention to animal rights issues
- Pitch coverage of PETA campaigns and events to the media, making follow-up contact to ensure placement
- Cultivate professional relationships with influential media outlets and journalists
- Respond to incoming media enquiries when needed
- Maintain and update PETA’s media databases and other files
- Track media coverage and modify efforts accordingly
- Assist PETA staff members with various duties associated with media relations
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a press department or in public relations, journalism, or a related field
- Excellent understanding of the UK media
- Thorough knowledge of animals rights issues and campaigns
- Exceptional writing abilities
- Exceptional verbal communication skills
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
- Proven excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to take initiative and follow through
- Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA’s philosophy and the ability to advocate for PETA’s positions on issues in a professional manner
- Adherence to a vegan lifestyle preferred
- Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
