Associated British Ports (ABP) is both a major landlord and port operator with 21 port locations in the UK. Our Kings Lynn port handles around 400k tonnes of Cargo each year, and combined with our two other ports in East Anglia contributes £360m to the UK economy. The port is specialised in handling bulk product and aggregates providing an easy access point for the forest products, agribulk, manufacturing and recyclables sectors.

We're currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to be based out of Kings Lynn to join a small team and provide preventative and reactive maintenance for the port. Ideally we're looking for someone from a similar industry background with hydraulic experience who is comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces (at times over water). You'll be responsible primarily for mechanical maintenance on plant machinery, cranes, machinery and equipment such as lock gates and sluices. Ideally you'll have knowledge of electrical maintenance and someone who's completed a multi-skilled apprenticeship would be ideal.

You should have an excellent attitude when it comes to working safely and be used to dealing with permit systems, some experience of a CMMS is required - we use Mainsaver but are flexible on your experience. You'll need to hold a full car driving licence to get around the port in the pool car and should be comfortable working in a small team.

Key Requirements:

  • Apprentice Trained background with experience of mechanical maintenance in a heavy background.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Ability to work in a small team and to meet deadlines

  • Experience of operating port machinery including mobile and quayside cranes (Ideal)
  • Multi-skilled background with LV experience (Ideal)

This is a predominantly days role, M-F working 0800 - 1630 as standard but you will be required to participate in a stand by roster which may require to you work between 0600 - 2200 at times. The role comes with a 12.5% shift allowance on top of basic salary, callout rate and 4-hours paid for every callout attended.
