Mechanical Engineers Gloucester, England

EDF Limited
Full Time Gloucester, England 54391 - 84892 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

We’re looking for Mechanical Engineers to join us in providing scientific and technical support to our nuclear fleet and new build projects. We have an opportunity as a Steam Generator/Boiler Engineer so join us on the journey to Net Zero!

You’ll join us in our Central Technical Organisation (CTO), providing technical engineering and scientific support across EDF UK, working with our operational power station sites, our own Design Authority function and various business critical programmes.

You’ll provide technical advice and will deal with safety/operational issues, guiding the power stations to maintain, modify and run the steam generators and boilers to optimal performance. In this position you’ll work on steam generators and boilers across the fleet of our existing and new build power stations, which are essential and key plant items that allow steam to be produced to power the stations’ turbines and generate electricity. The work will involve leading and resolving technical and safety case challenges and opportunities to ensure their reliability, working closely with a mixed discipline central (CTO) team and station staff to manage the plant, to achieve optimum performance and meet nuclear safety and generation demands.

Our main offices are based in Gloucester and Glasgow, so we’d be looking for your commitment to be present at one of these offices as required. We would be happy to discuss flexible working and a hybrid approach, so please let us know your preferences in your application.

This role will be advertised until Wednesday 14th June.

Pay, benefits and culture

We can offer a competitive salary from £54,391 - £84,892 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility. We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing

The varied nature of the work will require liaising with various staff members across the company and engaging with external suppliers to support your work, including technically commissioning, reviewing and managing work. Power station visits are occasionally required to attend specific meetings/workshops or to visit the specific plant item(s) in question. You’ll be required to support safety cases as well as general support to the stations, such as emergent issues affecting safety/design and build/operations. Excellent mechanical engineering technical skills and experience are required in order to produce high quality work.

Who you are

A relevant HNC (or equivalent) in one of the STEM subjects is a minimum requirement and a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent would be desirable. You should have achieved or be working towards Chartered Engineer Status, with a sound background in mechanical engineering. Experience in assessment/design of boilers/heat exchangers would be desirable.

You should have knowledge and experience of using engineering theory and first principles, alongside excellent problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, committed approach to personal and professional development.

Join us and together we can help Britain achieve Net Zero.
