Applications are invited for the post of Mechanical Engineer in Space Instrumentation
The post is a full time and fixed term for 2 years
The successful candidate will be part of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering team.
The post holder will join the Oxford Space instrumentation group to support development of a clean room cryogenic high-vacuum testing facility for the Ariel space telescope mission, support the mechanical design and modelling of the Modular Infrared Molecules and Ices Sensor (MIRMIS) instrument and our contributions to multiple other planetary instruments. MIRMIS is a thermal infrared imaging instrument that Oxford is delivering for the ESA Comet Interceptor mission with additional channels contributed by VTT Finland. The post holder will work with the existing Oxford team to assist with development of mechanical and opto-mechanical design, produce manufacturing drawing, documentation and FEM analyses.
Applicants should hold a Degree in physics, engineering, or related discipline with experience FEM structural and thermal analyses and an expert level at CAD.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate that they can work within a team and have excellent communication and decision making skills.
Previous experience in optical and opto-mechanical design will be an advantage.
