Our New Castle, DE office is growing, and is looking to add a junior Mechanical Engineer to support our Inspection & Test division. This division guides clients through the entire process of managing mechanical integrity needs. Our commitment to seeing clients through this process includes the initial inspection, repairs that may be required, engineering evaluations (as needed) and any of our in-house mechanical installation and engineering services.
The junior Mechanical Engineer will provide mechanical integrity support to our industrial clients. The Jr. Engineer will receive on the job training in effort to develop a working knowledge and understanding of pressure vessel and piping codes, storage tank design and inspection, as well as engineering evaluations.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Utilize PVElite to calculate minimum component thicknesses for mechanical equipment being inspected. Equipment includes: piping, storage tanks, pressure vessels, etc.
- Assist API Inspectors with field activities. This will include walking plant sites, measuring, field sketching, and other related tasks.
- Provide recommendations on the repair/ replacement/ alteration of plant equipment as required for safe operation.
- Prepare isometric drawings and field sketches of piping for pipe inspections
- Review and interpret P&ID’s
- Writes detailed inspection and turnaround reports, and maintains documentation of inspection activities.
- Accurately create and utilize spreadsheets in Excel for engineering calculations
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
- Experience with using AutoCAD or similar design software to open drawings, navigate, edit text, and print.
- Prior experience within an industrial, construction, manufacturing, or physically demanding environment is a plus
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Great attention to detail
- Willingness to learn
- Travel to client’s site in DE/MD/PA/NJ area and assist with field activities as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Capacity to occasionally perform physically demanding work: Climbing, pipe rack walking, tight-spot body positioning/maneuvering.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
- Occasionally ascend and descend portable and fixed ladders, scaffolding and other equipment used to reach equipment at various levels of height some of which maybe in excess of 25 feet in a safe manner.
- Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions as needed.
