nLIGHT is searching for a Mechanical Engineer to work within a multidisciplinary team to design, build and document tooling components, improve functionality; Design fixtures enabling automation, workstations, and systems to enable nLIGHT manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build robust tooling and process equipment suitable for reliable high-volume manufacturing.
- Work with Process & Design Team to improve existing platforms of Automation equipment
- Work with an interdisciplinary team to establish and define manufacturing equipment subsystem interactions and requirements.
- Work with Equipment team consisting of Maintenance Techs to improve MTBF (Mean time between Failure) and systemic issues to improve uptime.
- Work within existing tooling development guidelines, and work to improve the guidelines when appropriate.
- Oversee the procurement of engineering and prototype parts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of BS degree in a related technical field with equivalent experience practicing Mechanical Engineering.
- Candidate will have demonstrated machinery design experience in various industries.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD systems and engineering drawing practices including tolerance analysis and a working understanding of GD&T.
- Candidate shall be self-motivated and able to work with minimal guidance in the areas of requirements gathering, assuring customer needs are addressed, sourcing parts through supply chain contacts, and delivering fully documented solutions to the manufacturing floor.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with clear and professional written and oral communication skills.
- Project management skills.
- Strong understanding of the principles of heat transfer, stress/strain behavior, materials selection and standard machining and sheet metal processes is preferred.
- Detailed understanding of precision mechanical design associated with optical assemblies and the principles of fine mechanics to maintain micron-scale tolerances.

Salary, level based on experience, education and skills:
- Mechanical Engineer I: $75,000 - $86,000
- Mechanical Engineer II: $80,000 - $93,000
- Sr. Mechanical Engineer III: $90,000 - $120,000
Other Compensation and Benefits:
- Target Cash Bonus of 5% of your wages
