Leica Biosystems may have a future opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing Teams responsible a Digital scanner that is a sophisticated, high-precision, and automated electromechanical instrument for high-resolution scanning of pathological samples. The team is responsible for both sustaining and new product development.
Our positions are hybrid, based in Vista, CA and require teammembers to be onsite at least 3 days a week. At Leica Biosystems, our vision is to advance cancer diagnostics and improve lives.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide manufacturing, field, supply-chain, and regulatory support as a subject-matter expert regarding Leica Biosystems’ digital pathology products
- Generate, revise and justify detailed designs, including prototype mechanical and electrical designs as well as support manufacturability with new design of opto-mechanical & electro-mechanical assemblies
- Design, revise, and justify fixtures for assembly, test, and alignment of optical & electro-mechanical assemblies in-house and at supplier
- Support interaction with vendors throughout the design and manufacturing cycle for optimizing the design from manufacturability and cost standpoints
- Lead and advise on Engineering Change Orders – including project management, design outputs, V&V, and release – for design improvements and VAVE projects
Education, Skills and Experience we value:
- BA/BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Mechatronics or other related majors) or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience with Mechanical, Electrical, or Control System design and/or development in a regulated environment including CAD experience
- 2+ years of experience with automation / robotics including stages, servo/stepper motors and motion control / drives including high-level programming (eg: Python, LabView, C++, etc) preferred
- 1+ year of experience developing within, administering, and/or networking Linux systems
- Experience making independent and informed technology choices after due diligence and impact/risk assessments

The salary range for this role is $125,000 - $140,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
