Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

This is a full-time position located at our Sun Prairie, WI office.

Job Summary

Performs engineering duties as outlined in this job description to include the planning and design of tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the fundamental job duties and responsibilities. This is not exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
  • Responsible for 3D CAD designs, modifications, and original designs.
  • Researches, designs, evaluates, installs, operates, and maintains mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements.
  • Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Develops, coordinates, or monitors all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, or operation of product designs.
  • Assembles and tests.
  • Responsible for adhering to Quality Management Standards (QMS) processes and qualifications.
  • Inspects mechanical parts for accuracy.
  • Responsible for mechanical systems analysis.
  • Designs mechanical systems.
  • Design, creates and implements test fixtures.
  • Assists the Production Department as needed.
  • Provides technical support during meetings with customers.
  • Attends and presents at meetings and design reviews.

Experience/Education/Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering is required and two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks or equivalent software.
  • Experience using a PDM System.
  • Experience using inspection equipment.
  • Experience using an environmental chamber.
  • Experience using test chambers and apparatus.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
  • Experience using fabrication equipment such as files, saws, sanders, and drills.
  • Experience using electrical testing equipment such as voltmeters and current meters.
  • Experience using Google Docs, Google Sheets, and related applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desired

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Demonstrate initiative in executing directed tasks and make suggestions.
  • Display professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a small, but fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to quickly move from one task to another
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction and ability to manage one's own time.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
