Job Description

Our Water team in Chesterfield are looking for MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation and Control) engineering students to join our team for an engineering apprenticeship. As part of the AECOM Water team you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of water treatment projects for both UK and Global clients.

Water MEICA engineers at AECOM are challenged to provide design solutions for clients such as Severn Trent Water, Thames Water and the Ministry of Defence that are fit-for-purpose, safe, sustainable and at the cutting edge of industry technology and standards.

You will gain valuable experience working on a variety of projects; taking them from design concept through to construction and commissioning support, collaborating with a multitude of different disciplines, and be encouraged to develop your understanding of many elements within the water industry, such as hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and environmental design through calculations, report writing and use of engineering software. You will supported and mentored by experienced MEICA engineers as you develop these skills within a positive culture where learning and development is actively supported and promoted.

Responsibilities will include:
+ Numerical analysis including the use of computer-based programmes to assist with the study of potable and wastewater systems.

+ MEICA design work using computer aided design packages; e.g. AutoCAD, 3D modelling.

+ MEICA calculations for design of water treatment assets e.g. Pumping, package plant etc.

+ Sizing and selection of appropriate MEICA equipment for Water and Wastewater Treatment works.

+ MEICA deliverables for construction use e.g. Drawings, Schedules and Specifications.

+ Technical and feasibility studies to appraise the practicability of alternative solutions in water treatment.

+ Working within multidiscipline team to undertake technical design work.

+ Site visits to understand the clients requirements and project scope.

Qualifications

+ Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grade ‘C/4’ or above including Mathematics and English

+ Studying towards a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification such as a BTEC, HNC, or HND would be an advantage

+ Relevant work experience would be an advantage

+ Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive.

+ Basic computer skills essential (Word/Excel) and good report writing skills beneficial.

+ Basic skills in Engineering Design Computer Packages would be an advantage.

+ Demonstrable interest in water engineering

+ Communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally & in writing.

+ Structure & prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole.

+ Ability to work independently without losing initiative & focus.
