Summary / Objective
Reports to Mechanic/Diesel Technician as a Mechanic to service and maintain our fleet of Dodge Ram 5500 and 3500 diesel trucks and trailers. Under direction, responsibilities include inspecting vehicles, performing basic repairs, ordering parts, basic maintenance, replacing, balancing, and rotating of tires, and taking inventory of spare parts. Will work under the experience and direction of mechanics to learn the trade and learn repair technics under supervision. Excellent opportunity for a junior mechanic looking to grow as a Fleet Mechanic.
Essential Functions
· Perform routine servicing of fleet.
· Lube, oil, and filter changes, balancing and rotation of tires and flushing cooling systems.
· Perform preventive maintenance work on vehicles, including lubrication and oil changes.
· Daily visual vehicle inspections.
· Enter daily repairs and services into computer-based fleet tracking system.
· Test drive] vehicles to verify repairs and vehicle performance.
· Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
· Perform 90-day DOTs and ensure documentation for CHP is maintained and accurate.
· Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop.
· Learning repair techniques under the supervision of the mechanic.
Competencies
· A completed certificate or diploma in auto mechanics (preferred not required).
· Ability to perform CHP and DOT inspections and documentation.
· One year of general fleet maintenance and repair experience preferred.
· Ability to communicate issues and timelines for repairing vehicles.
· Physically fit and able to lift up to 150 pounds.
· Ability to partner with Drivers, Operations, Mechanics, Dealerships, etc.
· Ability to use computer-based maintenance system to log of services and repairs.
· Bilingual Spanish skills is a plus.
· California driver’s license and clean record required
· Excellent verbal communication skills.
Work Environment
Work is regularly performed outdoors and inside a mechanic shop. The position is regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise. This role routinely uses fueling equipment such as fuel pumps, hoses, and nozzles. This role also routinely uses technology such as handheld scanners and smart phones.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
