Job description
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is looking to recruit a Programme Co-ordinator to provide administrative support to the MPhil in Bioscience Enterprise (MBE) Programme Manager in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and to facilitate the smooth running of the MBE programme. The MBE Programme Co-ordinator will work closely with the MBE Programme Manager and the MBE students, and liaise daily with the programme lecturers (over 100 external speakers), the majority of whom work in industry, as well as bioscience, technology, enterprise and other relevant stakeholders in the University ecosystem and industry. The successful candidate will be involved in the administrative side of student enquiries and selection of candidates, and they will also support lecturers to access materials and upload presentations on a daily basis.
The one-year MBE Programme is designed for a cohort of 25 students and receives over 150 applications each year. The MBE is an intensive taught postgraduate course consisting of lectures, course work, group and individual assessments, an industry consultancy project, an internship in a company and business plan development for the students' own ventures. Students come from diverse backgrounds ranging from life sciences to financial services and are highly sought after by industry following the course, typically securing senior executive positions in industry. The MBE has received extremely good feedback, both from MBE students but also on the PTES survey.
The post holder will be a member of a team of programme and admissions coordinators in the Department, each of whom has primary responsibility to support a particular programme or programmes of study. Given the intensive nature of the course from October to June, support to other programmes is extremely limited but will be accommodated where possible and at the discretion of the MBE Programme Manager.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
Closing date for this position is 8th October 2023. Interviews are likely to be held soon after the closing date.
